Capital One Venture Rewards Card is best for ….

Jet-setters looking for some luxury travel perks without paying a higher price tag.  The card is also for people who want to earn miles without the complicated reward structures.  For instance, other travel rewards cards such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred allow members to earn 2X points on travel and dining while everything else earns 1X.  With the Venture Rewards Card, you will earn the same 2X miles on every single purchase.  However, the card is best suited for those who want to redeem their rewards primarily on travel.  That’s because rates for other redemption options, such as statement credits, are much lower.

The Welcome Bonus

This card has quite a strong welcome bonus.  Earn 60,000 bonus miles after spending $3,000 within the first 3 months of account opening.  So, in order to get the bonus, you must spend at least $1,000/month.  According to Capital One, this bonus is worth approximately $600 in travel rewards!  Therefore, in the absence of spending restrictions, this bonus shouldn’t be too hard to achieve.

Points & Redemption for the Venture Rewards

Unlike other travel credit cards, you earn 2X miles for every single $1 spent.  Rewards never expire so long as your account remains current.  Miles can be redeemed through a variety of ways.  First, you can either receive as statement credit (by using the Purchase Eraser) or by booking travel through Capital One Rewards Center (each mile is worth 1 cent).  Second, miles can be transferred to participating flight and hotel loyalty programs, however the redemption ratio does differ between partners.  For example, 2 Venture miles are worth 1.5 JetBlue TrueBlue points while 2 Venture miles will only get you 1 Emirates Skyward Mile.

Finally, miles can also be redeemed for gift cards, through Amazon, and even cash back.

Bottom Line

Compared to most travel cards, the Capital One Venture Rewards card gives a relatively high reward for every single purchase.  In particular, the enormous sign-up bonus makes it a solid primary card or secondary travel card.  However, the Venture card might not particularly be the best card option for those seeking to transfer points to domestic airline partners.  At the moment, JetBlue is the only U.S carrier in the Cap One partner network, together with Accor and Wyndham as hotel partners.  But, if you’re looking for a card with the same $95 annual fee with much better transfer rates, check out the Chase Sapphire Preferred.
